My work deals with concepts of masculinity. I question how society identifies maleness and the social notion of male sexual characteristics. My process in photography is a realization of my desire to study and understand cultural intolerance, and how homosexual men are critically judged by social standards. I juxtapose males to interact physically, emotionally, and sexually. The dichotomy my works explores exposes the duality between my personal questions as a homosexual man and the uncertainty of our cultural and individual beliefs. My photographs stimulate and entice the viewer to question masculinity and society.
I am a 22 year old, originally from Cole Camp, MO, and will be receiving my BFA in studio art this spring from Northwest Missouri State University. I use the human figure in my work to study and understand society, culture, humanity, and how they affect me. I am currently working on a body of photographs that question masculinity and society, and a body of drawings that communicate insecurity and loss. Previous juried shows include Kansas City Artists Coalition Juried Undergraduate Show and Northwest Missouri State University Juried Undergraduate Student Show. Solo shows include "Tell Him." in 2010 at Northwest Missouri State University Hot Box Gallery and "Catharsis" in 2011, also at Northwest Missouri State University. I also participated in the Northwest Missouri State University Celebration of Quality Culture Symposium.
