Between Chaos & Control
by Paula Izydorek
Paula Izydorek’s artwork hypothesizes how submersion in the natural environment affects ones biochemistry, interpersonal conflicts and overall wellbeing. She utilizes line markings, repetitious forms and material based patterns to metaphorically portray how ones experiential journey exist in a constant state of being altered by the surrounding energy in ones environment.
During Izydorek’s process based exploration, she pairs acrylic paint with birch wood to employ intertwining linear systems and geometric forms that interplay with the surface of the wood while utilizing the naturally occurring grain. Her paintings possess both materiality and immateriality; with subject matter ranging from tangible imagery to the nonphysical representation of thoughts and feelings that harmonize to create a medley of texture, color, and shape. These abstract patterns serve as a recall to the interconnectivity of ones physiological state in response to their immediate environment.
Paula Izydorek (born 1970 in Michigan) is an American painter who spent her formative years in Southern California and since has lived in several major US cities. She is passionate about her heritage and has traveled to all but three of the states. During her travels Izydorek looks to contemporary painting and the abundant perfection found in nature for continual inspiration. Although she inherently knows the exquisiteness of nature can never be improved upon through the painting process it is her goal to paint homage to its vast heterogeneity of textures, formations and all-encompassing palates.
Izydorek earned her BFA in Interdisciplinary Art at San Francisco Art Institute. Her first solo exhibition was Resolution or Evolution: An Intimate Interpretation at Millard Sheets Art Center, Pomona, CA (2015). Her first catalogue, Ingrained, was published Fall 2016 with coinciding solo exhibitions at InTown Gallery, Cleveland, OH (2016); City Center Gallery, Columbus, OH (2017); 29 Palms Art Gallery, Twentynine Palms, CA (2017); Rosewood Gallery, Kettering, OH (2018 forthcoming). Early 2018 she was featured in a two person show Paula Izydorek/Debra Sue Solecki, CWAL, Cleveland, OH which was reviewed by CAN Journal.
