Potential
by:
Sara Hoefer
According to Hoefer, "art is seeing the most mundane and familiar situation with unfamiliar eyes. Art has the potential to develop or come into existence. Art has kinetic energy, moving in a forward motion. Curiosity and drive fuel it". Hoefer takes things from her everyday surroundings and by assembling various materials together in a painterly manner she is able to reference "both fine art and folk art" and that the "potential for transformation" draws her to the materials she uses.
She states "I have a tendency to thinking poetically when composing. The sculptural presence of the objects married with light form shadows that become one with the composition. Tension or lack of tension, is referential to trout lines strung along the river and old barns in the process of dilapidating. Assembling materials together reference mending and repair".
