by Paige Davis
"Vacant / OCCUPIED" will be Paige Davis' first solo exhibition in Kansas City showcasing her new series of paintings and multimedia works as well as a few earlier pieces created in while living in Tennessee. The work explores both real and imagined interpretations of space and the complex effects of light in it's ability to reveal or conceal an environment or subject. Davis is currently investigating the complexity of light reflections on domestic surfaces and ideas of private or familiar environments. Her work also examines the interplay between concealment and illumination in both literal and metaphorical senses. In earlier works, she examined roots and bulbs to reveal how these often unseen growth systems expand and lay claim to their environment.
Originally from Greenville, South Carolina, Davis received her BFA from Clemson University in 2011 with an emphasis in Ceramics and Painting. In 2013, she moved to Lenexa, Kansas and currently works at the Kansas City Art Institute.
