Joshua Browning & Matthew Lepley
In our work, we are constantly striving to create a submersive experience. By utilizing large, bright projectors and loud sonic accompaniment in unadorned spaces, the works themselves are able to express far more subtle points while still keeping the participant’s attention. It’s as if a public speaker were making a very nuanced argument at the top of her lungs. It is also our intention to create pieces that can be appreciated on a purely aesthetic level, if the viewer so chooses, but to also provide something for the viewer who decides to spend more time contemplating the work. In addition, it is our intent to create works with a strong point of view while still allowing space for an audience to add their own subjective interpretation. While much visual art is often about the process, we revel in the immediacy and visceral nature of the digital/ video medium. This expression is less the result of deliberate brush strokes than of the chaotic push and pull between a human being and a seemingly random set of 1’s and 0’s.
Browning and Lepley are active multimedia artists working in the Kansas City area. Browning possesses degrees in Audio Engineering and Film, while Lepley is schooled in computer sciences.
